Do The Mic 🎙 Thing Client Music.
As a Music Producer my job is to make the client/artist ideas come alive.
Whatever your music level entry is, I believe together we can make creative and original sounds in varying contemporary musical genres. Everybody has a story to tell and a song within, so whether its your first time recording or you're a professional recording artist, Do The Mic Thing will support and guide you through the songwriting, recording and creative process.
Truth Rap - The Minds of The Young
DTM🎙T has created some wonderful music with young people giving them the platform to express themselves in the recording studio.
The journey begins with the young person presenting an image or a vision of themselves which is influenced by the genre of music they listen to. With rap music being the dominant musical sound of their generation, the lifestyle can have a negative impact on young minds, attitude and behaviour.
At DTM🎙T we support and influence young people to speak their truth, speak their mind, talk and write about their future as it pertains to them and not the artist or records they listen to. There are no gangsters here, just young people navigating their lives with what I call Truth Rap.
Here is some music created with young people at DTM🎙T.
Lammis & Aaliyah
The two young people that recorded this track came to Do The Mic 🎙 Thing sessions at The Rugby Club, Amplify Studios over a 6 week period. Each week we would write and record how they were feeling, how their week had been and the general thoughts of the life they were living. Do The Mic is 🎙Thing supported the young people in writing their lyrics in a fun, playful and positive way. and directed them in the recording process.
Grandad - Romeo
At Harrow Club Studios I have been working with and supporting young people between 11-13 years of age to write and record songs about bereavement and the loss of someone they love. This young man wrote about his Grandad who passed away at Christmas time. He was able to express how he felt emotionally. The young man said he played his song to his parents and that they cried.
Do the Mic 🎙️ Thing at The Dalgarno Trust
We recently completed a 6 week Do the Mic Thing songwriting and music production workshops with young people at The Dalgarno Trust youth club in North Kensington. I talked with the young people about things that were effecting their lives at present and they talked about school and the ongoing teachers strikes.
The young began by creating a beat/backing track and began writing their rap lyrics about having no school and what they would do on their time off whilst the teachers were on strike. The song was simply called ‘Strike’.
